The premium sound delivered by a 13.5mm driver combines with a soft silicon-rubber compound for great audio and hours of comfortable wearing. The closed acoustic structure blocks out most external noise, for a superior listening experience and the clearest sound reproduction possible. Whether you’re going to work or class, walking to the shops or working out at the gym, you’ll get stunningly rich sound quality.

Not bad for the money! by Juan Burgos
To be honest, I am impressed with these headphones. After disappointments with high-end brands, I tried these based on the reviews. They sound very good for being relatively inexpensive compared with the Bose and Sure. I tried the BOSE and the bass was great, that was the only thing that worked fine. Hoping to get it right, I paid $150 for the SURE 210, and it was the same thing. The highs are too much, and not enough bass. So I tried the Sony and at least they are not expensive and sound pretty good. I used them with my ZUNE and they are balanced. Save the money if you are expecting to wowed by the high end brands, you will be surprised!

Great….. until the 90 warranty ended by Michael Bodner
The sound quality and fit in my ear was perfect. Unfortunately, they lasted just long enough to go past the 90 day warranty and then the right ear bud died.

Oustanding sound quality for the money by Nicholas Strand
For a while I’ve been using Sony MDREX71 headphones and I love them. They’re still usable, but beginning to fall apart after many years of use. I wanted a new set of headphones for my new mp3 player and also in case my other pair broke. I actually bought the MDREX85SL, a version only available in Japan, from a third-party reseller through Amazon. I love the SL version because, like the EX71’s, the cord is the perfect length for using a mp3 player on an armband. Of course it also comes with an extension cord, giving you plenty of freedom to move around with a device in hand.

On to the sound. The quality of these headphones far surpass the EX71’s, which I thought to be very good to begin with. I don’t consider myself an audiophile but I do enjoy high quality music. These headphones provide a powerful but crisp bass, pounding enough to get you moving but not so much as to drain out anything else - perfect in my opinion. The treble can be a tiny bit on the harsh side, but I think it’s more due to the fact that I’ve never heard such quality treble so close to my ears before. Also, I haven’t worn them in yet and the sound can adjust slightly with use.

As for sound isolation, they cancel out the noise much better than the EX71’s and I find that I can turn the volume lower, which hopefully spares my hearing in later days. The only downside I can see to these headphones is that each one is specifically designed for one ear. You can’t switch them up. Being left-handed, this presents only a slight problem because I like my mp3 player on my right arm so my left hand can control it. This is impossible now because of the “J” cord design, a design that I like but is now forcing me to wear it on my left arm. But again, not really a big deal.

Overall, I highly recommend these headphones and if you have need of a short & long cord I recommend the SL version available through some of the third-party sellers here. They’re much cheaper too.

flawed design by mark twain
they sound very good, much better than the ipod earbuds BUT the have two different lenghts of cable from the splitter to the buds. this leaves the splitter close to the left ear with a longer lenght hanging down. this makes the left pull out when walking. i returned them for a better pair with eqyal lenght cables to the buds
